Our Story

Precision engineering, saltwater proven

Brian Rogers has been providing quality engineering to the marine trade as a marine engineer since 1950. Brian started Rogers & Lough Marine Engineering in 1961 and then Brian Rogers Marine Engineering in 1992. Specialising in the design and manufacture of stern gear, Brian Rogers Marine Engineering has the expertise to supply private boat owners and commercial operators alike.

The business is held in high regard within the boating industry, in both commercial and private sectors. Brian’s years of experience ensure every customer receives the right expert advice — and parts that fit and perform first time.

Today the workshop combines traditional precision machining with modern CAD-based propeller design, delivering stern gear for prawn trawlers, charter vessels, workboats, pleasure craft and everything between.

Why Choose Us

Six values that drive every job

Experience

Over 60 years solving marine engineering problems — few shops in Australia can match it.

Precision

CAD-driven propeller design and CNC-ready drawings mean the first shaft fits.

Honesty

Clear quotes, no surprises. If a job is better done elsewhere, we’ll tell you.

Reliability

Lead times we meet, parts that arrive when promised, phones that get answered.

Efficiency

A well-matched propeller saves fuel. We optimise for burn, not just thrust.

Community

Supporting the local marine trade — slipways, shipwrights and the fishing community.

Our Workshop

Equipped for everything stern-gear

Our workshop handles the full range of marine machining tasks: lathes for shafts up to 6 metres, dynamic propeller balancing, bronze and stainless welding, and dedicated propeller re-pitching equipment calibrated to industry standards.

We hold working stocks of common Duramax bearings and seals, Hydrive steering components and Poly Flex couplings — so the fix doesn’t have to wait on a container ship.

Cutless bearings, bronze bushings and water-lubricated shaft seals — the global standard.

Hydrive

Australian-made hydraulic steering gear for vessels large and small.

Poly Flex

Flexible couplings and engine mounts that take vibration out of the drive line.

Bi-Tron

Fuel and oil metal treatments proven to lower fuel burn and exhaust emissions.
